Shaunna Taylor, PhD (cand.), University of Ottawa, M.A. (Human Kinetics), CCC (Certified Counsellor)
Shaunna graduated from the University of Ottawa with a degree in mental training and performance counselling (Human Kinetics - Faculty of Health Sciences). She is an official service provider to the National Sport Centres - Ontario, and eligible for services billed through CSC Toronto, and Quebec (for more info, visit

www.multisport.qc.ca). She is also registered with SportMedBC as a mental trainer counsellor. She is a member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA) and is a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
Shaunna is also a certified counselor with the Canadian Counseling and Psychotherapy Association (CCA). Her personal experience in competitive sport as an athlete led her to the field of mental preparation for performance, helping other athletes achieve their own personal and performance goals.
Shaunna’s recent and current clients include competitive club, provincial and national athletes from a wide variety of individual and team sports, as well as varsity athletes at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. Recent career highlights include working with athletes in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Paralympics and working with the Canadian Paralympic Team in Torino, Italy in 2006. Shaunna is proud to be part of the sport science support team for Canadian athletes in the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympic/Paralympic Games. Shaunna also has enjoyed the expansion of her client base to include parts of British Columbia, where she consults with many high performance athletes in the Okanagan Valley.
Shaunna’s counseling philosophy is centred around listening, challenging and supporting her clients in their pursuit of personal excellence. She is a proud supporter of the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, TrueSport and KidSport Ottawa. Shaunna also lectures on issues surrounding the mental aspects of sport, and in 2008/09 has presented at the Sport Innovation Conference in Calgary, and the International Sport Psychology Congress in Marrakesh, Morrocco. She is conducting research at the University of Ottawa surrounding coaching athletes with disabilities. She also writes for a number of local publications which are centred on health and fitness in the Capital, such as Centre Ice Hockey Magazine and KickAbout Soccer Magazine.
Her services include such areas as goal-setting, stress control and relaxation techniques, visualization or imagery training, competition planning, fear control, interpersonal conflict management and injury/illness rehabilitation support. She has a special interest in working with athletes with disabilities, as well as body image issues and disordered eating prevention in athletes – more info at www.bodysense.ca and www.hopewell.on.ca.
